Board of Trustees

Our Trustees are our most senior leaders. They set our strategic direction, make sure we’re using our resources effectively and ensure we’re having the greatest possible impact on our community. Trustees are expected to undertake duties in a manner that reflects our local Mind’s values and ethos.  We’re looking for dedicated, empathetic, and ambitious candidates to help make our mission a reality and lead us closer towards our ultimate ambition: a society where everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

The role of trustees in South Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind is to govern the activities and affairs and oversee the strategic and general management of the charity. Specifically ensuring that South Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind has a clear purpose and direction, is solvent, well run and delivers its charitable and strategic objectives.

If this sounds like something you can do, please download our Trustee Recruitment Pack for more information on how to apply.

Meet our Trustees

Carol Roberts – Chair

I have been Chair of trustees for the last four years, having joined SWWMind as a trustee in 2016. I was motivated to become a trustee as I wanted to make a positive contribution to improving access to mental health services for anyone seeking support, as I had experienced some challenges in finding the right service locally to support someone close to me.

I am really pleased that SWWMind now deliver services in my hometown of Redditch, more widely in Worcestershire, as well as across South Warwickshire. I am proud to represent an organisation with so many passionate and dedicated people delivering an amazing service which can be life changing for many.

I have two lovely daughters who keep me busy, and I like to balance my love of food and socialising with friends raising a glass of wine, with circuit training, walking, yoga and meditation… yin and yang bringing balance to my life.

Liz Watson Vice-Chair

I joined SWW Mind as a trustee in 201? when I retired from my job in Engineering at Rolls Royce where I had worked since leaving university. I had many roles during my years with the company initially working in the Industrial and Marine division providing engines for ships and gas pumping then moving to work on Aircraft engines. The roles I had were managing teams of engineers supporting large fleets of aircraft engines in service, designing combustors and developing low emissions Combustion Technology. I was one of a small but growing group of women in senior management at Rolls-Royce and I was actively involved in supporting young women engineers to develop their careers.

I had a little personal experience of mental health problems supporting work colleagues and someone close to me but had very little understanding of the issues. I volunteered for Green Minds initially and later became a Trustee where the business skills I had could be useful and I could learn more about the mental health community and service users.  I am a member of the Finance Committee and Vice Chair of the Trustees.

I am married and have two sons and a daughter. My sons both work in Engineering and my daughter is a Psychologist working in Mental Health. All are married now and I have two lovely grandchildren too. My other love is gardening. I volunteer for the National Garden Scheme locally and we open our garden every year. We have done it for 12 years now and will continue as long as our bodies are willing!

Paul Drake

My most important role is ‘Dad’ to my two children, Oakleigh and Atticus. However, during the day, I spend my time working within the automotive sector as a Quality manager.  Health has always been an important part of my life, both mentally and physically and acting as a trustee for SWWMind enables me to give back and support the people who need it.

I have worked as a solicitor for 30 years, specialising in commercial dispute resolution and therefore I assist the Board with legal and commercial matters as well as general corporate governance. I joined the Board because I wanted to support an organisation that makes a real difference to people’s well-being by helping build resilience and self-reliance.
